Rinde Eckert has received the 2009 Alpert Award in the Arts for Theater. The Alpert Award provides unrestricted, annual prizes of $75,000 to five engaged, independent artists working in the fields of dance, film/video, music, theatre and the visual arts. Initiated and funded by The Herb Alpert Foundation and administered by California Institute of the Arts, the Award rewards experimenters who are challenging and transforming art, their respective disciplines, and society.  (www.alpertawards.org)

Librettist / director Rinde Eckert and composer Steven Mackey are interviewed by Frank Oteri in the Ojai Festival's  online Emagazine for the collaborative work together on the multi-media piece SLIDE. Performed by Eckert, Mackey and the new music ensemble eighth blackbird, SLIDE has its world premiere in Ojai on June 12, 2009 and will tour in 2010 and 2011.

4/29/08 Playwright Rinde Eckert's critically acclaimed HORIZON, co-produced off Broadway by the New York Theatre Workshop in June 2007, was honored with two Drama Desk Award nominations yesterday: one of six in the Outstanding Play category and David Schweizer for Outstanding Director of a Play.

The 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards honor achievement in the theater with competition between Broadway, off Broadway and off-off Broadway New York productions in the same categories.  Winners will be announced at the 53rd Annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony on Sunday, May 18, 2008, in the LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center.  The ceremony will be webcast by TheaterMania.com and broadcast live on satellite radio's XM 28 On Broadway.

4/2/08 THE LEAGUE OF OFF-BROADWAY THEATRES AND PRODUCERS has announced the winners of the 23rd annual Lucille Lortel  Awards for outstanding achievement off-Broadway. A special Unique Theatrical Experience award has been given to Rinde Eckert's play HORIZON, Produced by New York Theatre Workshop.

The 2007-2008 Lucille Lortel Awards nominating/voting committee is appointed by the League of Off-Broadway Theatres & Producers, the Lucille Lortel Foundation, Actors' Equity Association, Society of Stage Directors & Choreographers, and also includes journalists, educators, and other Off-Broadway theatre professionals. Awarded since 1986, the Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the League by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Foundation.  Additional support is provided by Theatre Development Fund. Support also provided by Ketel One Vodka and Pepper Bridge Winery.
